Several questions recently about barefoot running so here's an interesting article on the subtle shift in load by changing from a heel strike to mid-foot running style and here's a site that digs into the differences between a conventional running style and barefoot.
And yes, I dig my Vibram Five Fingers. But, you have to work your way up to a sustained amount of running since your calf, Achilles tendon, and buttock muscles are not used to doing so much work. Or at least mine weren't :-)
